Rockwall, Texas....On October 25th under sunny skies and 60*F at Harry Myers Park, the Rockwall Mustangs Track Club hosted their Third Annual Cross Country Invitational. It is comprised of four separate races including 2,3,4 and 5 kilometers. The event serves as a pre-USATF Cross Country Championship meet. The course is very challenging, run on grass and trail with a series of rolling hills.
Seventeen of the Rockwall Mustangs Cross Country runners participated in the meet. The meet also saw some of the areas top youth talent with Molly Tucker of Southlake setting a new Midget Girls 3K course record of 11:33. The 4K division witnessed Mustang harrier, Joel Gibbs run away with the boys youth division 4K title in 13:58 and veteran Chandler Crumblish win the female 4K title in 15:46. Two of the top runners from the Rockwall High cross country teams won the open 5K men and women races. Jacob Phillips crossed the line in a respectable 17:34 and Kelli Hardenbrook set a new Mustangs Team record in 20:57. Several other runners set personal bests in the event.
The Mustangs will play host to the Southwestern USATF Junior Olympic (http://www.usatf.org/events/2008/USATFJuniorOlympicXCChampionships/), Master's and Open cross country championships on November 9th.
