There will be a USATF Level 1 Coaching School, January 29-31, 2010 at the Hockaday School in Dallas. Instructors include Apryl Hamption and Dr. Robert Vaughn from the Southwestern Association and Matt Lydum from Defiance College. There are also 3 Tuition Scholoarships available from the Southwestern Association to attend the school. For more details, including registration information and the scholarship application.     Coaching Education

    • Developmental - Association-based, introductory course that offers a grass roots overview of the sport and coaching.
    • Level 1 - basic knowledge course that emphasizes rules, basic mechanics, and teaching progressions.
    • Level 2 - more in-depth training in an event specific group (sprints/hurdles/relays, endurance, jumps, throws, combined events).
    • Level 3 - very high-level seminar structure educational experience in a specific event area.

    Background Checks

    USA Track & Field is following the lead of other youth-based organizations in implementing a criminal background screening program on youth coaches and volunteers. In 2005, USA Track & Field voted to implement a voluntarily criminal background screening program on youth coaches and volunteers for the year of 2006. In 2007 criminal background screening became mandatory for all youth coaches and volunteers who are members of USA Track & Field.
